Keeping Your Carpets Looking Like New
To keep the carpets in your house looking like new will require work, and it all starts with vacuuming.
Carpets need to be vacuumed once a week and more often in areas of heavy traffic. Frequent vacuuming extends the life of your carpet by preventing a buildup of tiny particles (like grit and sand) that can be abrasive to carpet fibers. Vacuuming your carpets weekly with a good quality vacuum cleaner is a must. Also make sure that every few weeks, use your vacuum cleaner’s crevice tool for cleaning around skirting boards and other hard-to-reach places.
To vacuum wall-to-wall carpeting, we find it easier to divide the floor into quadrants and vacuum an entire quadrant before moving on to the next.
You Cant Rush Your Carpet Cleaning
Take your time when you give your carpet a clean, especially a plush carpet in which dirt is sure to be deeply embedded. Just a single pass with a high-powered upright vacuum cleaner is not enough. You really need to go over each section of the carpet a few times, and work slowly to allow the suction to remove all the ground-in dust and dirt.
Make sure to pay attention to the areas where people sit and move their feet. Vacuum these areas of heavy traffic with a criss-cross pattern of overlapping strokes.
Vacuuming your carpet regularly is not enough though. To keep your carpets in the best possible condition, it is highly recommended that you have the carpets in your home cleaned professionally a few times a year.
